President's Welcome

On behalf of the committee, I would like to welcome everyone to the 2010/2011 season. After a very impressive year last year, we are looking to build on those performances and have another great season. One that brings the results that each athlete is looking for, whether that be personal best performances, improved fitness or just a good fun time and the chance to make new friends.

The upcoming season will offer a variety of competitions which will cater for athletes of any ability.  Athletics is open to people of all ages.  Our club currently has athletes registered between the ages of 14 and 60 years old.   No matter what your level of ability, Blacktown City Athletics Club provides an opportunity to enjoy all athletic events.

These include our local Friday night competitions, a variety of inter-club weekend competitions, up to State Relays, State Championships and National Championships. At any of the inter-club competitions you will always be competing against other athletes of similar ability.   I would like to take this opportunity to encourage you challenge yourself and take the next step in achieving your athletic goals
.    For more information about all of these events, make sure you refer to this web page, the ANSW webpage or contact any of the Committee members.

Although this may be an obvious point, I would like to take this opportunity to remind all athletes that athletics is an individual sport and should always (relays aside) be treated as such. You should always compete against yourself. At the beginning of the season, each athlete should set themselves a list of goals for the season and then track your progress towards those goals throughout the year, hopefully ticking them off one by one until they have all been achieved.  It is important to remember that athletics is about challenging your own limits, not necessarily about winning the race. To improve on your best should always be your main objective in this sport.

This season we hope to build on the team spirit that has already been developing over the past few seasons. We have been establishing an identity of a club who has a strong competitive team but also compete fairly and contribute to the sport of athletics both on and off the field.  Club premierships and State Relays are big incentives to compete for Blacktown City Athletics Club as part of a team.

It is also important to recognise our sponsors, who make a significant contribution to the athletics club every season. At present, we have two major sponsors, which are Active West Physiotherapy in Blacktown,  Rudi's Painting Service at Kings Park and Quality Trophies Blacktown. We appreciate the support these two companies provide to the club and we encourage everyone to return the support they show us by utilising the great services they offer.

Finally, we hope you have a great time with the Blacktown City Athletics Club this season and achieve all you set out to achieve.
